Nothing matches the power, passion and sheer raw energy of a great orchestra and conductor in performance. There’s something both invigorating and utterly mesmerising in hearing these massed groups of talented individuals working together with absolute concentration and sheer dedication to the music they are playing.

Our Shell Classic International series features 14 concerts with great orchestras and conductors from around the world, each known for their distinctive musical personalities. You can hear music ranging from the great symphonies of Beethoven, Brahms and Bruckner, to the Baroque magnificence of Handel opera, as well as celebrations of two great
20th-century composers: Olivier Messiaen and Elliott Carter.

This year we’re also pleased to be offering a series of free informal talks before each concert. Enjoy an introduction to the concert, including background on the performers and some details about the music, in an informal session led by Southbank Centre’s classical music team.
