The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment

Making the old new, and seeing the familiar in a new light is what the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment is all about, and the 2008/09 season offers some remarkable opportunities to do just that. A highlight of the season is the Revealing Tchaikovsky series, for which the Orchestra are thrilled to be collaborating with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, in association with Southbank Centre. The Orchestra’s two Tchaikovsky performances as part of this should prove to be a fascinating experience.

Principal Artist Sir Simon Rattle joins the OAE in December for performances of Schumann’s symphonies, which is a great opportunity to hear this music performed by a period orchestra with all the transparency and detail that its instruments offer, and in 2009 the Orchestra starts its Haydn celebration, exploring a wide variety of his music, from oratorio to symphony.
